I Was Breathless With Anticipation

It was the Spring of 1994 and I was seated in the back of a long, black limousine, headed for the Las Vegas Strip. I was breathless with anticipation as I was on my way to the MGM Grand to meet Frank Sinatra. My heart was running away with itself, and I had a hard time breathing. I was headed there to spend an intimate weekend with him. I was so excited I could hardly contain myself, conjuring up all sorts of scenarios and questions. I was a little on the thin side, weighing only 115 pounds. Would he think me voluptuous enough to waste his time? I mean, this was a man who had had some of the most beautiful women in the world! But wait, he was the one who sent for me after seeing me at one of his shows, wasn’t he? “Okay, calm down,” I told myself, “he knows what you look like.”

Conversation With Myself

I thought, “I’m not dressed to go out somewhere high class and especially to be with him.” Then I looked down and realized I’m wearing a sequined gown and sexy high heeled sandals. Oh! Well, I guess that’s okay too. Then, “What if he wants to go to dinner, what should I order?” “Oh STOP it Nancy Carol!” Frank, being the gentleman he is, will simply order for you and whatever you are served you WILL eat and enjoy! Besides, you will probably never even taste the food. Gosh, I was a nervous wreck, because all sorts of problems presented themselves. Still….I congratulated myself! After all, it’s not every day a girl gets to spend a hot weekend with the Chairman of the Board, Ol’ Blues Eyes, The Voice, himself! How did I get so lucky…? The last I remembered, I was watching him onstage, down in the very first row. God he looked so good, smooth, polished, handsome! Then he leaned over and took my hand and said something to me. WOW!

A HOT date for me!

A HOT date for me!

These are some of the songs Frank sang to me in our private suite at the MGM.

When I arrived at the MGM, I was met by one of Frank’s people, a giant man who looked like he could take on everybody in the casino….all at once! He escorted me to Frank’s suite where this big guy gently tapped on the door as if he was afraid to disturb the occupant. The door opened and Frank Sinatra stood there in blue silk pajamas and robe. Nothing like getting right to it, I thought! He took my hand, waved the giant away with the other hand, and pulled me to a table set for two with a centerpiece of beautiful pink, red and yellow roses. Champagne bubbled in fancy fluted glasses, enticing us to sip.

“Here baby, make yourself comfortable,”

After a few sips of champagne, he handed me a white silk rose embossed robe and said, “Here baby, make yourself comfortable.” I went into the bathroom (I still had some modesty after all) changed into the robe, and made my way back into the sumptuous suite. He held my chair for me and we sat across the table from each other and sipped champagne. At a knock on the door, Frank got up and opened the door, revealing a room service person, who proceeded to serve us dinner. We had lobster and steak, more champagne, more champagne…..he sang several songs to me, told me how beautiful I was and how glad he was that I had decided to meet him. (OH YEAH!, like I “decided!” I felt it was a “command performance” I couldn’t refuse!) I gulped a little more champagne. He took one of the roses from the vase and touched my lips with its petals, and then leaned over and kissed me…. I was in heaven!

Oh my heart just melted when he sang Witchcraft – He said I put a spell on him!

Frank is a very witty guy, always with something funny or “off the cuff” to say. You never know what’s going to cross his mind. But this song really gave me the shivers, and I couldn’t wait to get to the “main event.” He told me I put a “spell” on him, that he was enchanted with me. We had a few more glasses of champagne, while he sat cozily close to me, with his arm around me.

You can watch the video of the song here:  Witchcraft.

Can you imagine? Listen here to Strangers in the Night

He sang “Strangers in the Night” to me, but said, “The song is like us and our meeting, but we’re no longer strangers.” I was trembling all over. He kissed me, then kissed me again even more deeply….and the next thing I knew we were walking toward a big bed, with Sinatra holding my hand. He held me close, kissed me, held me closer yet, and, and…fade to black…… Later he sang Baubles, Bangles and Beads. You can hear it at the underlined link below.

Baubles, Bangles and Beads….

Much later he held me and told me “you glitter and gleam,” and that I make him “dream,” “so that someday, he may, buy me a ring, ring,….ring!” RING! And that’s when I rolled over and turned off the alarm clock! Yes, sadly, it was all just a dream! And that’s the story of my hot weekend with Frank Sinatra….or IS IT?

If you have something romantic coming up, Anniversary, Valentine’s Day, or even your Wedding Night, there’s nothing like a Frank Sinatra love song to compliment your feelings for each other.
